Kombucha has been reported to have many health benefits including aiding in detoxification, digestion, energy gain, immune health, joint care, cancer prevention and weight loss, as stated by Dr. Axe. Kombucha may aid in sleep, hair loss and liver function, states WebMD.

Kombucha is a fermented tea drink that has been around for centuries and has become popular as of 2015 due to its many health benefits, states WebMD. Kombucha is essentially a colony of bacteria and yeast, and is made by adding the colony to sugar and tea, allowing the mix to ferment. The result is a tonic that contains vinegar, B vitamins and chemical compounds. The bacteria and probiotics in Kombucha are the components in the drink that are proven to aide in digestion and possibly even strengthen the immune system, as reported by NPR.

According to WebMD, there are no actual clinical trials or sound scientific evidence to validate many of the health claims of Kombucha, but rather the claims are based on personal reports and a few animal studies, as of 2015. Mayo Clinic reports that there has been some slight adverse side effects reported from drinking Kombucha, such as stomach upset, infections and allergic reactions.
