Some good ways to cook grouper are grilling, frying, pan searing, poaching or baking. Before any of these methods, marinate the grouper fillets for one to two hours before cooking, and apply any additional seasonings you prefer. Grouper can pairs well with a variety of spices, seasonings and sauces. Rice, vegetables and other types of fish are also common pairings with grouper.
To grill grouper, preheat the grill to medium heat, and grill the grouper fillets for approximately five minutes per side for a ten-minute total cook time. Make sure to coat the grouper with oil or use a non-stick grill.
A great way to fry grouper is with a coating of flour, a milk and egg mixture, and cornmeal or other seasonings. Dip the grouper in each of these mixtures, and then fry on both sides at 375 degrees Fahrenheit.
To pan sear grouper, spoon about 2 tablespoons of olive oil into a cast iron pan, and preheat until the oil is smoking. Place the grouper in the pan, and cook for two to three minutes. Similarly, to poach grouper, heat your choice of liquid mixture in a skillet at a medium heat before placing the grouper into the pan. Cook the grouper for about five minutes.
Finally, to bake grouper, preheat the oven to 400 degrees Fahrenheit, and place the grouper in a baking dish. Cover the top of the grouper with bread crumbs to hold in moisture. Cook for 15 to 20 minutes.
