To prepare candied carrots, place 1 pound carrots, each cut into 2 pieces, in a pot of salted water and bring to a boil, afterward reducing heat to a high simmer for 20 to 30 minutes. Ensure that the carrots do not cook long enough to reach a mushy stage. Drain the carrots and place them in a pan over low heat. Stir in 2 tablespoons dried butter, 1/4 cup packed brown sugar and salt and ground black pepper to taste. Cook for three to five minutes until the sugar is bubbly, and serve hot. This recipe makes four servings.
To prepare simply steamed asparagus, fill the bottom half of a steamer pan set with water, and add 1/4 teaspoon salt and 1 teaspoon butter. Bring to a boil and place asparagus in the top half of the steamer pan set, steaming for about five to 10 minutes depending on thickness of the asparagus stalks, or until they are tender. Trim the dry ends of the asparagus before placing it in the steamer pan, peeling the spears lightly if they are thick. This recipe also makes four servings.Learn more about Cooking
