While there are many types of bread in Turkish cuisine, four of the most common types are Simir, Misir Ekmek, Tas Firin Ekmegi and Tandir Ekmegi. Simir is a round bread served at breakfast with tea and is often topped with sesame seeds.
Misir Ekmek is a type of cornbread. Tas Firin Ekmegi is what most would recognize as a regular, everyday bread, only it is cooked in a stone oven. Finally, Tandir Ekmegi is the same as Tas Firin Ekmegi, only it is cooked in a round oven. Bread is a staple of the Turkish diet and the Turks enjoy a wide variety of both sweet and savory breads.
