Meanwhile, make the frosting by beating together 4 ounces of softened unsalted butter and 8 ounces of softened cream cheese. Stir in 1 pound of powdered sugar and 1 tablespoon of vanilla extract. Layer a trifle dish with chunks of carrot cake and cream cheese frosting, topping it with chopped walnuts.
