Rachel Ray's sloppy Joe recipe says to heat a large skillet over medium-high heat, then add 1 tablespoon of olive oil and 1 1/4 pounds of ground sirloin. Break up the meat in the pan, then stir in a mixture of 1/4 cup brown sugar and about 1 tablespoon of steak seasoning. After the meat is browned, add 1 medium chopped onion and 1 small chopped red pepper to the pan. Reduce the heat to medium, and cook the onions and peppers with 1 tablespoon of red wine vinegar and 1 tablespoon Worcestershire sauce for five minutes. Combine 2 cups tomato sauce and 2 tablespoons tomato paste into the mixture, reduce the heat and simmer for five minutes.
Ree Drummond's recipe browns 2 1/2 pounds of ground beef in a large pot over medium-high heat. After draining off the fat, stir in 1 large diced green pepper and 1/2 a large diced onion. Next, mix in 1 cup of water, 1 1/2 cups ketchup and 5 minced garlic cloves.
Add 2 tablespoons of packed brown sugar, 2 teaspoons chili powder, 1 teaspoon dry mustard and 1/2 a teaspoon of red pepper flakes. Continue by adding hot sauce, Worcestershire sauce, salt and pepper to taste. Mix, cover and simmer for 20 minutes over medium-low heat.Learn more about Cooking
