Cold, picnic-style side dishes are best served with chicken salad. To balance out the protein component of the chicken, choose side dishes that primarily contain vegetables or carbohydrates, such as cucumber salad, coleslaw, potato salad or raw fruits and vegetables.
Tomato, avocado and pasta salads are also great additions to chicken salad. If you prefer to prepare a warm side dish, try roasted beets or grilled vegetables, such as corn, asparagus or eggplant. You can also prepare various types of warm or cold soup. Crusty bread, such as French or sourdough, is also a preferable side addition to any chicken salad.
