Side dishes that go well with ham include potatoes, vegetables, fruit and pasta. Mashed, scalloped and baked potatoes also work well with ham. A fruit or ambrosia salad complement a ham nicely, and macaroni and cheese makes an excellent side dish.
Mashed potatoes can be made using a traditional recipe, or try a garlic-flavored version for variety. Scalloped potatoes can be prepared with and without cheese. Green beans, asparagus, broccoli and carrots all go well with ham, and rolls or biscuits are a nice addition to any ham dinner.
To prepare roasted asparagus, trim the ends off of two bunches of asparagus, and peel the remaining stalks. Place the spears in a baking dish, and sprinkle with olive oil, salt and pepper, rolling the spears to ensure they're coated thoroughly. Roast in an oven pre-heated to 450 degrees Fahrenheit for eight to 10 minutes. Give the pan a shake halfway through cooking time. Remove the pan from the oven, and place the asparagus onto a plate, sprinkling with Parmesan cheese as desired.
To prepare muffins, mix two sticks of margarine and 1 cup sour cream with an electric mixer. Add 2 cups of self-rising flour and resume mixing. Place spoonfuls of dough into a greased or paper-lined muffin pan. Bake at 400 degrees Fahrenheit for 15 to 20 minutes.
