Some good recipes for teaching kids how to cook are eggs-in-the hole, tuna salad and pita pizzas. Additionally, teaching them to cook hot oatmeal and tossed salads is ideal, since these are simple recipes.
One easy breakfast recipe for kids learning to cook is cheesy eggs-in-the-hole with bacon. Fry 4 slices of bacon until crispy, and set them aside. Add 1 tablespoon of butter to the baking pan. Use a cookie cutter or other tool to make holes in 4 slices of bread. Toast the bread and the cut-outs in the skillet until brown on one side. Crack 1 large egg into each hole, and sprinkle them with Parmesan cheese. Cook for 2 minutes, flip the eggs-in-the-hole, sprinkle them with more Parmesan, and cook another 2 minutes. Crumble bacon over the toast, and serve.
Tuna salad is an easy lunch recipe. Open and drain 1 can of chunky light tuna in water. Put the tuna in a medium-size mixing bowl, and flake it with a fork. Chop and stir in half a white onion. Add mayonnaise, sweet pickle relish, salt and pepper to taste. Chop up a hard-boiled egg and stir in. Serve as sandwiches or over salad greens.
For dinner, kids can also make ham and pineapple pita pizzas. Put 4 pitas on an oven-safe tray, and cover them with 8 ounces of sliced ham, 8 ounces of sliced or grated fresh mozzarella and 8 ounces of drained pineapple chunks. Set the oven to 425 F, and bake the pitas for 10 to 12 minutes. Serve with a fresh salad.
