To make Paula Deen's version of sausage balls, preheat the oven to 375 degrees Fahrenheit, spray a baking sheet with cooking spray, and set aside. In a large glass bowl, mix 1 pound of ground sausage, 3 cups of Bisquick, 4 cups of shredded cheddar cheese and 1/8 tablespoon of black pepper. The mixture will be crumbly. Roll it into balls, and place them on the baking sheet. Cook for about 20 minutes, moving the balls once during the cooking process to eliminate sticking. Serve with a dip made of 1 cup of mayonnaise mixed with 1 tablespoon of mustard.
To make the Betty Crocker version, preheat the oven to 350 degrees Fahrenheit, and grease a jelly roll pan before setting it aside. In a large bowl, mix 3 cups of Bisquick, 1 pound of ground sausage, 4 cups of shredded cheddar, 1/2 cup of grated Parmesan and 1/2 cup of milk. Also add 1/2 teaspoon of parsley flakes and 1/2 teaspoon of dried, crushed rosemary leaves. Shape the mixture into balls about an inch in diameter, and place each piece in the pan. Bake for 20 to 25 minutes, and serve warm with chili sauce or barbecue sauce for dipping.
