Good recipes for making French toast in a slow cooker include apple French toast from Betty Crocker and banana French toast from Diethood. Betty Crocker's recipe uses challah bread, pecans and apples, while Diethood's recipe includes a French baguette, cream cheese and bananas.
To make Betty Crocker's recipe, bake 10 cups of challah bread cubes at 300 degrees Fahrenheit for 20 to 30 minutes. Beat eight eggs with 2 cups of half and half, 1/2 cup of milk, 1/3 cup of brown sugar, 1 1/2 teaspoons of vanilla and 1/2 teaspoon of cinnamon. Fold in the bread cubes, and let stand for 15 minutes. Cook two chopped apples in 2 tablespoons of melted butter for five minutes.
Stir 6 tablespoons of butter with 1 cup of brown sugar, 1 teaspoon of cinnamon and 1 cup of chopped pecans in another bowl. Transfer half of the bread mixture into a greased slow cooker, and top with half of the cooked apples. Layer half of the sugar mixture on top, and repeat the layers. Cook on low for two and a half to three hours, and serve with powdered sugar and syrup.
To make Diethood's recipe, grease a slow cooker with cooking spray. Spread 4 ounces of cream cheese on French baguette slices, and arrange them on the bottom of the slow cooker. Top with three to four sliced bananas, and sprinkle with 2 tablespoons of brown sugar and 1/2 cup of chopped walnuts. Top with 2 tablespoons of butter slices.
Beat three eggs in a bowl, and stir in 1/4 cup of milk, 1/3 cup of honey, 1 teaspoon of cinnamon, a pinch of nutmeg and 1/2 tablespoon of vanilla. Pour the egg mixture into the slow cooker, and cook on low for three to four hours. Serve drizzled with honey.
