After preheating the broiler, place 1 1/4 pounds of lean Italian turkey sausages pierced with a fork on a baking sheet. Turn them halfway through while broiling for up to 8 minutes. Cut them into halves on a cutting board, and set aside.
Next, turn the heat into a medium-high level, and heat 2 tablespoons extra-virgin olive oil in a huge skillet. Cook 1 large onion sliced into wedges, 1 trimmed and chopped bulb fennel, and 3 finely sliced bell peppers for 3 minutes. Cook for another minute after adding 1/2 teaspoon salt, 1/2 teaspoon fennel seeds, 1/2 teaspoon red pepper flakes, 1 teaspoon chopped rosemary and 3 gloves of minced garlic.
Adjust the heat to a medium level after adding 1/2 cup water, 12 chopped basil leaves and a 15-ounce can of diced tomatoes. Cook for around 5 minutes while covered. Remove the cover, drop the sausages, and cook for another 3 to 4 minutes. Pour a bit of water if the sauces becomes overly thick.
