To make good Oreo cookie balls, mix 26 crushed Oreo cookies with an 8-oz package of cream cheese and shape the mix into 1-inch balls. Freeze the balls for 10 minutes, then dip them in melted chocolate. Place the cookie balls on a baking tray and refrigerate until chilled.
Make sure the Oreo cookies are finely crushed into a powdery consistency. One simple way to crush them is to place the cookies in a large zip-top bag use roll over the bag repeatedly with a rolling pin. After shaping the balls, you can dip them in any type of chocolate you prefer, such as white, milk or dark chocolate. Melt the chocolate gently in a double boiler over the stove.
To dip the cookie balls, add them in batches to a bowl of melted chocolate and use two forks to gently roll the balls in the chocolate until they are evenly coated. Place the dipped chocolate balls, spaced apart, on a baking tray lined with parchment paper, and keep them in the refrigerator for about an hour to fully chill.
You can also decorate the cookie balls by sprinkling the leftover crushed Oreos before the chocolate sets, or drizzling more chocolate over them. Oreo cookie balls don't always have to be dipped in chocolate however. Other options include rolling them in cocoa powder, powdered sugar, crushed sugared nuts or colorful sprinkles.
