A good recipe for Hungarian stuffed peppers is provided on About.com and calls for bell peppers, ground chuck, ground pork, rice, tomato sauce and spices. Another recipe uses Hungarian sweet yellow wax peppers along with a flour and tomato sauce.
To make Hungarian stuffed peppers, cut off the tops, and seed 4 multicolored bell peppers. Rub a little salt and pepper into the pepper cavities, and mince the pepper tops. Place the minced peppers in a bowl along with 1 minced onion, 1 pound of ground chuck, 1/2 pound of ground pork and 1/2 cup of rinsed and uncooked rice, and mix in 1 egg, 1 teaspoon of sweet paprika, 1 teaspoon of salt, 1/2 teaspoon of black pepper and 1 minced garlic clove.
Spoon the mixture into the peppers, and place them in a slow cooker along with 2 8-ounce cans of tomato sauce mixed with 1 teaspoon of sugar. Cook the stuffed peppers on low for eight to 10 hours. Serve them with sour cream.
Another recipe calls for sweet yellow wax peppers instead of bell peppers. Sauté 1 grated onion, 1 grated garlic clove and 1 teaspoon of paprika in 1/4 cup of vegetable oil, and combine the mixture with 1 pound of ground pork, 1/2 cup of rice, and salt and pepper to taste. Stuff the peppers with the filling, and place them in a pot with a sauce made from 3 tablespoons of vegetable oil, 3 tablespoons of flour, 2 cups of tomato sauce and 2 cups of water. Bring the liquid to a boil, and simmer the sauce and peppers covered on low for 90 minutes.
