Make a baked ziti casserole by combining pasta, sauce and cheese in a baking dish. This dish is often served with garlic bread and a side salad topped with Italian dressing.
Place 1 pound of dried ziti pasta in a pot of lightly salted boiling water and cook it for 8 minutes. Drain the pasta and set it aside.
Brown 1 pound of ground beef in a skillet with 1 chopped onion. Drain the fat from the meat and add 2 14-ounce jars of pasta sauce to the skillet. Simmer the mixture for 15 minutes, then stir the cooked ziti into the meat and remove the pan from heat.
Butter a baking dish well, then place 1/3 of the pasta mixture and 6 ounces of sliced provolone cheese in the baking dish. Top the cheese layer with 1 1/2 cup of sour cream, followed by 1/3 of the pasta mixture and then a layer of 6 ounces of shredded mozzarella cheese. Add the final 1/3 of the pasta mixture to the baking pan and top it with 2 tablespoons of grated Parmesan cheese.
Cover with foil and bake at 350 degrees for 30 minutes or until the cheeses have melted.
