A great starting recipe for a 2-pound breadmaker calls for 1 1/2 cups water, 2 tablespoons canola oil, 1 3/4 teaspoons salt, 4 cups bread flour, 2 tablespoons sugar, and 2 1/4 teaspoons active yeast. This recipe makes approximately 12 servings of a fluffy white bread which is ideal for toast or French toast.
To make this recipe, measure and add all liquid ingredients to the baking pan first, then measure and add all dry ingredients except for the yeast. Sprinkle the yeast evenly on top of the mixture, and snap the baking pan into the bread maker. Close the lid, and turn on the machine; choose the Basic bread-making setting, and when prompted for the crust color, set it to Light. Press Start, and let the bread maker run, removing the baking pan after the bread bakes for approximately 55 minutes to an hour.
After removing the pan, turn it upside down and gently shake the loaf out of it and onto a cooling rack. Carefully remove the kneading blade, and set the loaf upright. Cover the loaf with a dish towel, and allow it to cool for approximately 20 minutes; once it is completely cool, it is ready to serve.
