Three popular party punch recipes are Montgomery punch, fruit punch, and wassail bowl punch. Montgomery punch contains alcohol, while the fruit punch and wassail are non-alcoholic.
To make the Montgomery punch, mix 2 cups fresh lemon juice and 1 1/2 cups sugar, stirring until the sugar dissolves. Stir in 1 cup of brandy. Pour over and ice ring in a punch bowl. Add two 750-milliliter bottles of chilled sparkling wine and one 375-milliliter bottle of chilled dessert wine such as Sauternes. Garnish with orange slices, lemon slices and cranberries. This recipe makes 14 cups.
To make fruit punch, combine 1 cup of thawed concentrated lemonade, 6 ounces of thawed concentrated orange juice, 2 cups cranberry juice, 3 cups water and 1/4 cup superfine sugar in a lidded container. Stir until all of the sugar is dissolved. Chill the punch for one to two hours. When ready to serve, pour the punch into a drink decanter or punch bowl and add 2 liters of chilled lemon-lime soda. Add ice, and garnish with orange and lemon slices. This recipe makes 1 gallon.
To make the wassail bowl punch, brew 4 cups of tea, then add them to 4 cups cranberry juice, 4 cups unsweetened apple juice, 2 cups orange juice, 1 cup sugar and 3/4 cup lemon juice in a 5-quart slow cooker.
Place three cinnamon sticks and 12 whole cloves in a double-thick piece of cheesecloth. Tie the cloth with kitchen twine to form a bag, and add it to slow cooker. Cover the slow cooker, and cook on high for one hour or until the punch begins to boil. Discard the spice bag before serve the wassail warm. This recipe makes 3 1/2 quarts.
