Kraft's, Taste of Home's and Food and Wine's recipes are good meringue recipes. Food and Wine's meringues are not flavored, while Kraft's and Taste of Home's meringues have flavors such as chocolate, lime and strawberry.
To make Food and Wine's recipe, beat 3 egg whites until firm peaks form and add 2/3 cup of sugar, 2 tablespoons at a time. Beat in 1 teaspoon of vanilla. Form meringues and bake them for an hour and 15 minutes at 225 degrees Fahrenheit.
To make Kraft's meringues, beat 4 egg whites and 1/4 teaspoon of cream of tartar for five minutes. Add 3/4 cup of sugar, 1 tablespoon at a time. Beat until stiff peaks form meringues. Sprinkle them with lime and strawberry flavor gelatin powder and bake for 50 minutes at 225 degrees Fahrenheit. Turn the oven off, prop the oven door slightly and let the meringues cool in the oven for an hour.
To make Taste of Home's recipe, beat 3 egg whites with 1 teaspoon of vanilla, 1/8 teaspoon of cream of tartar and 1/8 teaspoon of salt until soft peaks form. Slowly add 3/4 cup of sugar, 1 tablespoon at a time. Beat for six minutes and fold in 1 cup of miniature chocolate chips and 1/4 cup of chopped pecans. Form meringues and bake at 250 degrees Fahrenheit for 40 to 45 minutes. Turn the oven off and leave the meringues in the oven for 1 1/2 hours to cool.
