To make homemade macaroni and cheese, cook the macaroni pasta and add to a sauce of butter, flour, eggs, milk, dry mustard, cheddar cheese, salt, ground black pepper and seasoned salt. For alternative flavors, add cayenne pepper, paprika or thyme to the sauce.
Creamy Macaroni and Cheese
This macaroni and cheese can be served as is, or topped with cheese or breadcrumbs and baked for 20 to 25 minutes.

- 1/4 cup unsalted butter
- 1/4 cup all-purpose flour
- 1 whole egg
- 2 teaspoons dry mustard
- 2 1/2 cups whole milk
- 1 lb. cheddar cheese, shredded
- 4 lbs. dried macaroni
- 1/2 teaspoon ground black pepper
- Seasoned salt
- Cook the macaroni
- Prepare the sauce
- Stir in the egg
Cook the macaroni according to the package instructions. Once the macaroni is cooked but still slightly firm, drain the water and set aside.
Beat the egg in a small bowl and set aside. Melt the butter in a large pot over medium-high heat and add in the flour. Whisk constantly and cook for a few minutes, then whisk in the milk and dry mustard. Cook for about 5 minutes, stirring constantly.
Add 1/4 cup of the prepared sauce to the egg and stir quickly so the egg does not cook. Add the egg mixture to the rest of the sauce and stir in the cheese and spices. Add salt as needed. Add the cooked macaroni to the sauce and serve immediately.
