Betty Crocker publishes an easy-to-make honey bun cake recipe on its website, BettyCrocker.com. The recipe calls for boxed cake mix and requires just 15 minutes prep time. The recipe serves 12 people.
To make Betty Crocker’s honey bun cake, preheat the oven to 350 degrees Fahrenheit or 325 F if using a non-stick or dark-colored pan. Grease and flour a 13-by-9-inch cake pan.
Use an electric mixer to beat 1 box of yellow cake mix with 2/3 cup vegetable oil, 4 eggs and 8 ounces of sour cream on low for 30 seconds, and then turn the mixer on medium, and beat for an additional two minutes. Spread half the mixture into the prepared pan.
In a smaller bowl, mix together 1 cup packed brown sugar, 2 teaspoons ground cinnamon, and 1/3 cup chopped pecans. Sprinkle the mixture over the batter in the pan, and then spread the remaining batter over the nut mixture.
Bake the cake for 44 to 48 minutes, or until it appears deep golden brown. Meanwhile, in a small bowl, combine 1 cup powdered sugar, 1 teaspoon vanilla and 1 tablespoon milk. Remove the cake from the oven, and while it is still warm, use the tines of a fork to poke holes throughout the cake. Spread the powdered sugar mixture over the cake. Allow the cake to cool for around an hour before serving.
