A good homemade chocolate pie recipe consists of sugar, cornstarch, milk, bittersweet chocolate, a pie crust and a few other ingredients. This chocolate pie can be served on its own or with some whipped cream and a raspberry on top for a garnish.
A store-bought pie crust works fine for this recipe. To start the recipe, the cook bakes the pie crust in a pie pan and lets it cool completely. To prepare the chocolate filling, she combines 1 1/2 cups of sugar, 1/4 cup of cornstarch and 1/4 teaspoon salt in a medium saucepan and whisks the ingredients until combined. The cook then pours in 3 cups of whole milk and 4 egg yolks and stirs the mixture. She stirs the mixture over medium-heat for six to eight minutes until it just starts to boil and then removes it immediately. She then adds the 6.5 ounces of chopped chocolate, 2 teaspoons of vanilla extract and 2 tablespoons of butter to the mixture and stirs until combined.
The mixture should have the consistency of pudding. The cook now pours the mixture into the pie crust to put in the refrigerator uncovered for 4 hours. If there is any excess mixture, it can be poured into small containers to be eaten as pudding.
