Some good slow cooker recipes for Swiss steak include Taste of Home's Swiss steak slow cooker recipe, the Food Network's Swiss steak and Betty Crocker's slow cooker Swiss steak supper. Most of the recipes call for beef round steak, onion and garlic.
Make Taste of Home's Swiss steak recipe by whisking together 3/4 cup all-purpose flour, 1 teaspoon pepper and 1/4 teaspoon salt. Cut 2 pounds of boneless beef top round steak into smaller pieces, and dip in the flour. Brown the meat in 1 to 2 tablespoons of butter in a skillet, then place the meat in a slow cooker. In a bowl, mix together 1 can condensed cream of mushroom soup, 1 1/3 cups water, 1 to 3 teaspoons beef bouillon granules, 1/2 cup chopped onion and 1/2 teaspoon minced garlic. Layer the mixture with the steak, and cook on low for up to nine hours.
You can substitute the cream of mushroom mixture with 1 can diced tomatoes, water, 1 onion and 1 bell pepper cut into strips. Another option is to layer 6 to 8 chopped potatoes, 1 1/2 cup baby carrots and 1 sliced onion over the meat. Combine 1 can diced tomatoes and 1 12-ounce jar beef gravy, and pour the sauce over the beef and vegetables before cooking.
