Popular chicken casserole recipes include the chicken cobbler casserole, the chicken and wild rice casserole, the chicken and mushroom casserole, the chicken and squash casserole and the chicken enchilada casserole. They take varying amounts of time to cook, from less than an hour to more than 5 hours.
A chicken cobbler casserole features sourdough rolls as a topping and is made in about 50 minutes. The chicken and wild rice casserole takes longer at 1 hour and 15 minutes, but it is not difficult to make. It includes sliced almonds, rice, celery ribs, onions, cream of mushroom soup and water chestnuts in its ingredients.
A chicken and mushroom casserole, meanwhile, has shallots, garlic, fresh mushrooms, chicken broth, Parmesan cheese and sherry in its list of ingredients. The preparation time takes about an hour, with the total cooking time taking 1 hour and 40 minutes. A chicken a squash casserole takes much longer though at more than 5 hours. The vast majority of this time, however, is cooking and standing time, where the cook does not need to be hands on. The ingredients include yellow squash, zucchini, onion, diced tomatoes, cream of chicken soup and sour cream.
Finally there is the creamy chicken enchilada casserole. It takes about an hour and a half to cook and includes sweet onion, poblano peppers, garlic, cream of chicken soup, chicken broth, sour cream and green chilies in its list of ingredients.
