A traditional Chex muddy buddy recipe is available on BettyCrocker.com with a mixture of peanut butter, powdered sugar, butter, vanilla, semi-sweet chocolate chips and Chex cereal. A snickerdoodle-flavored recipe is available on Crazy for Crust, where the semi-sweet chocolate is swapped for white chocolate chips and cinnamon.
The recipe on the Betty Crocker website says to measure 9 cups of Rice Chex, Wheat Chex, Chocolate Chex or Corn Chex, or a combination of varieties, into a bowl. In a separate bowl, microwave 1 cup of semi-sweet chocolate chips, 1/2 cup of peanut butter and 1/4 cup of butter until smooth. Stir in 1 teaspoon of vanilla extract, and pour the mixture over the cereal. Add cereal and 1 1/2 cups of powdered sugar to a re-sealable plastic bag and shake. The mixture can be spread on wax paper to cool and then placed in the refrigerator.
On Crazy for Crust, the same basic muddy buddy recipe is followed. However, 1 cup of white chocolate chips should be substituted for the chocolate chips, and 2 1/2 teaspoons of cinnamon should be mixed in with the vanilla. It is recommended that about 1/2 cup of powdered sugar be kept in the storage container with the refrigerated muddy buddies so they can be re-shaken before serving.
