To make county fair fried dough, mix together the flour, baking powder and salt. Use a pastry blender or mixer to incorporate the butter into the flour mixture. Mix in the warm water to form a soft dough, cover the dough, and allow it to rest for 15 minutes.
After the dough rests, divide it into eight equal pieces. Roll each piece into a disc that is about 5 inches in diameter and 3/8-inch thick. In a frying pan, heat 3/8-inch of vegetable oil to 375 F. Cooking the discs one at a time, carefully lower the disc into the oil, and cook it for 60 seconds. Flip the disc, and cook on the other side for 60 seconds or until light brown.
When the dough is fried, put it on a baking sheet lined with paper towels. To keep the fried dough warm, place the baking sheet in a 200 F oven. Serve with desired toppings, such as maple syrup, powdered sugar or cinnamon sugar.Learn more about Desserts
