Basic white bread is a good recipe for beginners to use in a Breadman bread machine. Beer bread is an adaptation of basic white bread, while whole wheat bread is also easy.
For basic white bread, place 1.125 cups water, 2 tablespoons sugar, 1 teaspoon salt, 1.5 tablespoons dry milk and 1.5 tablespoons butter into the bread pan. Add 3 cups bread flour, and make a well in the center. Add 2.5 teaspoons yeast to the well. Select the basic white cycle, and press start. After 10 minutes check the dough. If it's sticky, add 1 tablespoon flour at a time until the bread is the proper consistency.
To make a 1.5-pound loaf of beer bread, heat 1/2 cup beer and 1/2 cup water to 80 degrees Fahrenheit, and pour into the bread pan. Add 1/4 cup chopped green onions, 2 teaspoons sugar and 1 teaspoon salt. Float 3 cups bread flour on top, make a well, and add 1.5 teaspoons bread machine yeast.
For a 1.5-pound loaf of whole wheat bread, heat 3/4 cup water and 3/4 cup milk to 80 degrees, and place in the pan. Add 2 tablespoons butter cut in pieces, 1/4 cup molasses and 1.75 teaspoons salt. Place 4 cups whole wheat flour and 3 tablespoons vital wheat gluten in the pan, make a well, and add 3 teaspoons bread machine yeast. Set the machine for whole wheat.
