Good bread stuffing recipes include Taste of Home's and Betty Crocker's versions of the dish. Taste of Home's recipe incorporates apples and raisins into the stuffing, whereas Betty Crocker's recipe uses celery and thyme.
To make Taste of Home's bread stuffing, cook 1/3 cup of chopped onion in 4 1/2 teaspoons of butter until the onion is tender. Combine the onion mixture with 2 cups of soft bread crumbs, 1 cup of chopped and peeled tart apples, 1/3 cup of raisins, 1/4 teaspoon of salt, 1/4 teaspoon of sugar and 1/8 teaspoon of rubbed sage. Drizzle the mixture with 4 teaspoons of unsweetened apple juice, and toss to coat. Bake covered in an oiled baking dish at 350 degrees Fahrenheit for 30 minutes. Bake for an additional five to 10 minutes uncovered.
To make Betty Crocker's bread stuffing, melt 3/4 cup of butter in a Dutch oven over medium-high heat. Add 2 chopped celery stalks and 1/2 cup of chopped onion, and cook for six to eight minutes, stirring occasionally. Toss the mixture with 9 cups of soft bread cubes, 1/2 teaspoon of dried thyme, 1 teaspoon of salt, 1/2 teaspoon of ground sage and 1/4 teaspoon of pepper. Bake the stuffing in a covered and greased baking dish at 325 degrees Fahrenheit for 30 minutes. Bake for an additional 15 minutes uncovered.
