In 1869, Jacob Beringer became the Celler Foreman for one of the first commercial winemakers in Napa, Charles Krug. The property next door to Krug's would become the home of the Beringer Winery.
With a long history of producing great wine, Beringer rapidly gained in popularity when in 1990, Wine Spectator named Beringer's 1986 Cabernet Sauvignon "#1 Wine of the Year." Six years later, Beringer was again recognized by Wine Spectator, but this time for a white wine.
