Gate Gourmet caters to various onboard needs, especially menu designs, aesthetic food packaging and modern supply chain solutions. It offers around 250 million meals every year to around 250 customers at more than 120 airport locations worldwide, as of April 2015. The company claims that it manages over three million airline flights each year and maintains an average reliability rate of at least 99 percent.
Gate Gourmet operates approximately 1,900 high-loader vehicles mostly equipped with cooling systems, the latest engines and cutting-edge technology features to provide fast and efficient services. The company provides up to 200,000 food items and equipment to passenger amenities.
Established in 1992, Gate Gourmet originated from Swissair catering. The firm expanded by acquiring the flight kitchens of several airlines. A merger of Gate Gourmet and Dobbs International Services occurred in 1999. The Swissair group sold Gate Gourmet in 2002, and further acquisitions followed in 2007 and 2008. The gategroup brand was launched in 2008, and the company was included on the SIX Swiss Exchange list in 2009.
