Fruit is a very healthy food to consume. Some people assume that eating fruit is harmful, like consuming high-fructose corn syrup, because fruit has fructose in it. However, the fructose in fruit and high-fructose corn syrup have very different effects on the body.
Fructose appears in fruit in low enough quantities that it is nearly impossible to consume enough fruit to get to the high levels of fructose that are considered unhealthy. Fruit is also loaded with water and fiber, which the human body must intake daily. Consuming fruit is filling, so it is less likely to lead to over-eating, whereas consuming refined sugars such as those in soft drinks leads to over-eating and a high insulin response.
