As of October of 2014, Frito-Lay no longer makes 3D Doritos. This Doritos brand was introduced in the mid-2000s, but only remained on the market for a few years.
In the mid-2000s, Frito-Lay decided to take a break from its regular, tried-and-true Doritos flavors. While the chips still had their familiar triangle shape, they had a 3D effect as each chip was air puffed. This hollow center was purported to give the consumer a puff of cheese-flavored air when crunched. Fans of this chip compared it to "Doritos-meets-Bugles." Flavors of this chip included Nacho, Ranch and Jalapeno Cheddar. Unfortunately, consumer demand for this product was not high and the chips were removed from the shelves just a few years later.
The 3D Doritos is not the only flavor or style of Doritos that has been discontinued. Doritos Taco Supreme, Megawhat Chili Cheese, Fiery Habanero, Guacamole, Salsa and Salsa Verde are all Doritos flavors that have been discontinued. Many of these flavors were extremely popular with Doritos aficionados, and a few of them even have online petitions going in an attempt to persuade Frito-Lay to put them back on the market. Once a product has been pulled, however, it is highly unlikely that a company will reintroduce it.
