The people of New Caledonia have diets that consists of mainly seafood, bats and fruits and vegetables. They also have a strong connection with French cuisine.
New Caledonia is located in the middle of the Pacific Ocean. Much of their food comes from what can be collected from sea. Yams and bananas are a staple in many of the traditional meals. Bougna, a mixture of yams and meat, is served on special occasions. Taro and Cassava are used to bulk up meals and stretch the food to feed more. Mahi Mahi, a species of dolphin, is served at many of the local restaurants.
