A box of Wonka's Rainbow Nerds has five distinct flavors: strawberry, grape, sour apple, orange and lemon. Each flavor has a recognizable taste when eaten individually. If eaten all mixed together, Nerds are a combination of sweet and sour all rolled into one.
Willy Wonka's Rainbow Nerds have been around since the 1980s, but have gained even more popularity since becoming available in the large movie theater box size. At their inception, Nerds came in a small box with two flavors and two separate openings at the top of the box. This enabled the consumer to eat one flavor at a time or open both sliding openings to have two flavors at once.
The five fruity flavors of Rainbow Nerds are housed in a box with bright and colorful packaging featuring one tab at the top for easy opening and closing. There have been many variations of Nerds over the years. Nerds Rope, Sour Nerds, Jumbo Nerds, Nerds Gum and Nerds Jelly Beans are just some of the different types of options that are found in supermarkets and local candy stores.
The top three ingredients in Nerds are dextrose, sugar and malic acid. The rest of the candy contains less than 2 percent of corn syrup, artificial flavors, carnauba wax and artificial coloring.
