Some examples of fermented foods are yogurt, kefir, cheese, soy sauce, whey, sauerkraut, Korean kimchi, pickled cucumbers and miso. One benefit of including fermented foods in the daily diet is improved digestion. Fermented foods increase the levels of beneficial bacteria in the bowels to alleviate poor digestive health.

Fermentation is a chemical process naturally occurring in yeast or bacteria. It has been used since ancient times as a preservation method for sour foods, such as kimchi and yogurt. Fermentation is also used for the production of alcoholic beverages.

It should be noted that eating fermented foods should be done in small portions on a regular basis.
