Ethnic foods that contain beans, broccoli, onions, and milk products (including yogurt, cheese and sour cream) can cause gas. Mexican dishes such as burritos often contain beans and onions. Asian stir fry recipes often contain broccoli and onions. Indian foods such as basundi, khoya and paneer are made with milk.
Lactose, a sugar found in dairy products, is a common causes of gas. Between 30 to 50 million Americans are lactose-intolerant and should therefore avoid dairy. Some people have gas because of irritable bowel syndrome, a common intestinal disorder that may be triggered by stress, hormones or other factors. If food is not the cause of gas, it is wise to seek guidance from a medical provider.
