The edible parts of a papaya are the flesh and the seeds. The flesh has a sweet taste, but the seeds are bitter in flavor.
Papayas are ripe when the fruit's skin is green or yellow in color. Prior to eating the flesh or the seeds, cut the papaya in half with a sharp knife, and scoop out the seeds with a spoon. Eat the seeds as is if desired. To eat the cleaned flesh, fill the papaya with fruit salad, or cut into cubes, wedges or slices. Drizzle lime juice over the papaya to enhance the fruit’s tropical flavor.
