To make an easy buttermilk ranch dressing, combine 1/2 cup of sour cream, 1/4 cup of mayonnaise, 1/2 cup of buttermilk, 2 teaspoons of fresh lemon juice and 1/4 cup of finely chopped chives in a medium bowl. Make another easy ranch dressing by whisking 1/2 cup of mayonnaise with 1/2 cup of well-shaken buttermilk in a small bowl. Using a mortar and pestle or the method of your choice, mash 1 garlic clove and 1 tablespoon of finely chopped onion with 1/8 teaspoon of sea salt to make a paste. Whisk the paste and 1/2 teaspoon of dry mustard into the mayonnaise mixture until well blended. Add 2 tablespoons of finely chopped chives, 1 tablespoon of finely chopped dill, 1 tablespoon of finely chopped flat-leaf parsley and 1/4 teaspoon of freshly ground black pepper.
