Betty Crocker and About.com provide easy recipes to make baked beans in a slow cooker. One recipe requires canned baked beans and the other requires dried, white navy beans.
The Betty Crocker recipe includes three, 28-ounce cans of drained, vegetarian baked beans,1/2 cup of a chopped onion, 2/3 cup of barbecue sauce,1/2 cup of packed brown sugar and 2 tablespoons of ground mustard. Mix the ingredients in a slow cooker. Cook the beans on the low heat setting for approximately 4 to 5 hours. The beans can heat on the high setting for approximately 2 hours.
The About.com recipe requires soaking and simmering 3 cups of dried, white navy beans until they are tender. Drain the beans and put them in a slow cooker. Add 1 1/2 cups of ketchup, 1 1/2 cups of water, 1/4 cup of molasses and 1 large, chopped onion. Also add 1 tablespoon of dry mustard, 1 tablespoon of salt, 6 slices of diced, uncooked salt pork or bacon, and 1 cup of brown sugar. Mix the ingredients in the slow cooker. Cook the ingredients for about 8 to 10 hours. Stir the ingredients occasionally.
