To make an easy teriyaki sauce, combine 1/3 cup water, 1/3 cup brown sugar, 1/3 cup soy sauce, 1 teaspoon of crushed garlic and 1/2 teaspoon of ground cinnamon in a small bowl. You can use teriyaki as a dipping sauce or as a marinade for meats.
Another teriyaki sauce recipe mixes 1/4 cup soy sauce, 1 cup water, 1/2 teaspoon of ground ginger, 1/4 teaspoon of garlic powder, 5 tablespoons of packed brown sugar, and 1 to 2 tablespoons of honey in a saucepan over low heat. In a separate cup, mix 2 tablespoons of cornstarch and 1/4 cup cold water until the cornstarch fully dissolves. Add this cornstarch mixture to the saucepan, and heat it until the sauce reaches your desired thickness. This recipe should yield approximately 1 1/2 cups of teriyaki sauce. If the sauce is too thick, you can thin it out by adding a bit of water until it reaches your desired consistency.
Vegetarians can use the sauce as a marinade for tofu and vegetables for a simple teriyaki stir-fry. To do so, prepare the teriyaki, and place desired ingredients in the sauce. Cover, and place in the refrigerator for at least two hours before cooking as desired.
