Some easy steamer recipes include green bean salad, sweet potato waffles, pan-steamed broccoli, and steamed clams with chorizo, citrus and saffron aioli. To make pan-steamed broccoli, cut a 1 1/2-pound broccoli stalk with the florets in pieces and steam it with 1/3 cup of water and 1 pinch of kosher salt for three minutes on high and three minutes on low. Stir 2 tablespoons of unsalted butter into the broccoli before serving.
To make green bean salad, add 1/2 pound of trimmed green beans to a steamer basket, and place it on top of a large pot of boiling water. Steam the beans for four minutes, and remove them from the heat. Lightly toast 2 tablespoons of chopped walnuts at medium heat for a few minutes, and remove them from the heat. Once they cool off, mix them with 2 tablespoons of finely chopped fresh parsley leaves and 2 tablespoons of chopped red onion.
Make the dressing by mixing together 2 teaspoons of olive or walnut oil, 1 teaspoon of red wine vinegar, 1 teaspoon of Dijon mustard and salt and pepper to taste. Toss the walnut mix and the dressing in a bowl with the green beans, and serve.
