To make traditional Italian bread using an easy recipe, mix flour, sugar, salt, yeast and water into a bowl, and cook the mixture for 30 minutes to an hour. Once the dough rises, roll it again, coat it with olive oil, and bake it for another 30 minutes.
Preheat the oven to 375 F, and add 1 cup of warm water and yeast into a bowl. Let the bowl stand for 5 minutes, and then add 3 cups of flour, 2 teaspoons of sugar and 1 teaspoon of salt into another bowl. Stir the yeast mixture for 8 minutes, and add it to the flour mixture. Stir the mixture until sticky. Slowly add 1 cup of additional water to the mixture, and shape the mixture into a ball. The dough should be slightly moist. Sprinkle it with a bit more flour.
Put the dough into the bowl, cover it with a kitchen towel, and let it rise for 30 minutes to an hour. Once it rises, take a little more flour, pat it down, and roll it into a ball again. You can let it rise twice if desired. Put the dough on a baking tray covered with parchment paper, and coat the dough with olive oil to give it a crunchy crust. Sprinkle some sesame seeds or salt on top of the dough if desired. Cut the top of the loaf diagonally.
Bake the loaf for 30 minutes until you hear a hollow sound when you tap it.
