To make an easy strawberry glaze, combine 1 cup of sugar and 3 tablespoons of cornstarch in a saucepan. Stir in 3/4 cup of water and 1 cup of cleaned and mashed fresh strawberries. Bring the mixture to a boil while stirring constantly. If desired, add in a few drops of red food coloring. Remove the saucepan from the heat, transfer the mixture to a bowl, and let it cool for 10 to 15 minutes.
This easy strawberry glaze goes well on pies, cheesecakes, tarts, brownies and ice cream. To use the glaze on a strawberry pie, spread about 1/3 cup of it over the bottom and sides of an uncooked pie shell. Halve 5 cups of hulled and divided strawberries, and arrange them inside of the shell. Spoon the remaining glaze over the berries. Chill the pie for 1 to 2 hours, and garnish it with whipped cream before serving.
Other easy strawberry glaze recipes use lemon juice, powdered sugar and strawberry jello, and have different consistencies. For a very smooth glaze without chunks, use a wooden spoon to break the strawberries into pieces while they are cooking in the sauce. Pour the finished glaze through a sieve while disposing of the solid chunks, or run the glaze through a food processor.
