An easy recipe for sausage rolls is available on the Food Network website. The recipe requires five ingredients, 20 minutes of preparation, 30 minutes of cooking and an hour for the roll to freeze. This recipe makes 40 sausage rolls.
To make sausage rolls, you need two thawed, frozen puff pastry sheets; three mild flavored sausage links; three hot flavored sausage links; 6 tablespoons of grated Romano cheese and 10 fresh basil leaves.
Roll out the puff pastry sheets. On one sheet, split open the hot sausage casing, and put the meat on the pastry; the other pastry sheet gets the mild sausage meat. Spread the sausage evenly on the puff pastry, leaving a 1/2-inch strip of pastry free of sausage.
Sprinkle 3 tablespoons of cheese and 5 basil leaves over each puff pastry sheet. Roll up each pastry sheet tightly from one bare strip to the other, and seal it. Place the rolls in the freezer for an hour.
When the dough freezes enough to cut easily, cut the rolls into 1/2-inch pieces. Preheat the oven to 350 degrees Fahrenheit. Bake the rolls for 20 to 30 minutes. Cool the sausage rolls for at least five minutes before serving.
