An easy recipe for a traditional Rum Runner calls for 1 ounce of pineapple juice, 1 ounce of orange juice, 1 ounce of blackberry liqueur, 1 ounce of banana liqueur, 1 ounce of light rum, 1 ounce of dark or aged rum and a splash of grenadine.
Add roughly two cups of ice and the liquid ingredients to a blender and blend until smooth and slushy. Serve in a hurricane (or any other) glass with an orange slice or lemon slice garnish. If you desire more of a kick to your Rum Runner, add a Bacardi 151 floater to your finished drink. Pour 1 ounce of Bacardi 151 over the top of the Rum Runner, taking care to pour gently so it "floats" over the blended ingredients instead of combining with them.
To make easy Rum Runner Jello Shots, you need 1 3-ounce box of strawberry banana Jell-O, 1/2 cup of light, dark, or spiced rum and 1/2 cup of triple sec. Dissolve the Jell-O in a cup of boiling water. Remove from heat and add the rum and liqueur. Pour the mixture into shot cups and refrigerate until set (3 to 4 hours.) Garnish with a pineapple wedge. Yields 15 shots.
