One easy pepper steak recipe is intended for serving over long grain white rice. Use the dish as a meal on its own, or serve it with an accompanying salad or other side dishes. Counting preparation time, the recipe takes about 60 minutes to make.
Place 1 cup of uncooked long-grain white rice in a pot and add 2 cups of water, bringing to a boil over high heat. Lower the heat, cover and simmer for 20 minutes
In a medium saucepan over medium-high heat, pour 2 tablespoons olive oil and sauté 1 medium onion (sliced and separated into rings) and 1/2 of a julienned green bell pepper until tender. Stir in 1 pound boneless sirloin steak (cut into thin strips), 2 cloves of peeled and chopped garlic and 1 teaspoon browning sauce. Stir until the meat is browned. Sprinkle with 1 tablespoon ground paprika and seasoning salt and ground black pepper to taste. Add 1 1/2 cups of water and bring to a boil.
In a separate small bowl dissolve 2 tablespoons cornstarch in 1/2 cup of water, then slowly stir this into the pepper steak mixture until it thickens to your taste, and serve over the white rice.
