When making Oreo truffles, combine Oreo chocolate sandwich cookies and cream cheese. Next, roll the mixture into balls, and dip in melted semi-sweet baking chocolate. Refrigerate until the truffles are firm. This recipe takes approximately one hour and 30 minutes to prepare and makes about 3 1/2 dozen truffles.
Take 9 Oreo cookies from a 16-ounce bag, and place in a food processor. Blend the cookies until they are fine crumbs. Set them aside for later use. An alternative method to crushing the cookies in a food processor is placing them in a plastic bag and using a rolling pin.
Blend the remaining 36 cookies to fine crumbs, and transfer to a medium bowl. Add 1 package of softened cream cheese, and combine this well. Roll the truffle mixture into approximately 42 balls.
Next, melt 2 8-ounce packages of semi-sweet chocolate. Dip the balls into the melted chocolate, and place on a baking sheet lined with wax paper. Finally, sprinkle the balls with the reserved cookie crumbs. Place the baking sheet in the refrigerator, and allow the truffles to rest for about one hour prior to serving. Leftover truffles can be stored in a covered airtight container, in the refrigerator.
