For easy Jell-O shots, stir 1 cup boiling water and 3 ounces of any flavor of Jell-O until it is dissolved, then stir in a mix of 4 ounces vodka and 1/2 cup cold water. Pour the mixture into shot glasses, molds or a baking pan, and refrigerate until set.
The best vessels to pour the mixture into are plastic shot glasses, as it is easier to squeeze the glass to get the Jell-O shot out. Make sure that the alcohol and water mixture is refrigerated until it is added to the Jell-O mixture. The Jell-O shots should be refrigerated for at least two hours, but overnight yields the best results. There are variations on the alcohol and flavorings used in Jell-O shots. A Blue Hawaiian uses blueberry Jell-O, 3 ounces coconut rum, 2 ounces blue Curacao, 1 ounce pineapple juice and 1/4 cup cold water.
There are variations on the presentation of Jell-O shots, including serving the Jell-O in orange slices. Layered Jell-O shots are made by using three different colors of Jell-O. Use the traditional Jell-O shot recipe cut in half for one package of the Jell-O, and fill the cups 1/3 of the way with the finished mixture. Allow the Jell-O to set, then repeat with the second and third colors of Jell-O, making sure each color sets before adding the next.
