Hamilton Beach's vanilla ice cream is an easy recipe for an ice cream machine. Real Simple offers an easy cookies and cream recipe. Both use five or fewer ingredients.
Easy vanilla ice cream starts with 2 cups of half and half, 1 cup of heavy whipping cream, 1 1/2 teaspoons of vanilla extract and 1/2 cup of sugar. Mix all the ingredients in a bowl, stirring well. Start the ice cream maker as instructed by the manufacturer. Pour the mixture through the hole in the lid. Let the mixture churn for 20 to 40 minutes, or until the ice cream is the desired consistency. If you want, add chocolate chips or chopped nuts about 15 minutes into the churning time.
The cookies and cream recipe starts with roughly the same ingredients: 2 cups of heavy cream, 1 cup of whole milk, 2/3 cup of sugar and 1 teaspoon of vanilla extract. The difference is the recipe also calls for 20 chocolate sandwich cookies placed in a freezer bag and crushed.
Mix the first four ingredients in a saucepan, heating on low until the sugar is dissolved. Pour the mixture into a bowl, cover, and refrigerate until the mixture is cool. Pour the mixture into an ice cream maker as instructed by the manufacturer. Once the ice cream is mostly frozen, add the crushed cookies and then continue the churning process.
