To make an easy homemade butter pound cake, combine 1/2 pound of butter with 1/2 cup of shortening, 3 cups of sugar, 5 eggs, 3 cups of flour and 1/2 teaspoon of salt, 1/2 teaspoon of baking powder, 1 cup of milk and 1 teaspoon of vanilla and bake for 60 to 90 minutes (or until toothpick inserted in the middle comes out clean) at 350 F. Bake the cake in a greased and floured tube pan for easy removal.

Alternatively, make an easy homemade butter pound cake using heavy whipping cream and 7UP soda. Cream 1 cup of unsalted butter, 1/2 cup of butter-flavored shortening and 3 cups of granulated sugar. Mix in 5 large eggs, one at a time, and fold in 1 teaspoon of vanilla extract and 1 teaspoon of lemon extract.
