To make an easy homemade butter pound cake, combine 1/2 pound of butter with 1/2 cup of shortening, 3 cups of sugar, 5 eggs, 3 cups of flour and 1/2 teaspoon of salt, 1/2 teaspoon of baking powder, 1 cup of milk and 1 teaspoon of vanilla and bake for 60 to 90 minutes (or until toothpick inserted in the middle comes out clean) at 350 F. Bake the cake in a greased and floured tube pan for easy removal.
Alternatively, make an easy homemade butter pound cake using heavy whipping cream and 7UP soda. Cream 1 cup of unsalted butter, 1/2 cup of butter-flavored shortening and 3 cups of granulated sugar. Mix in 5 large eggs, one at a time, and fold in 1 teaspoon of vanilla extract and 1 teaspoon of lemon extract. Stir in the zest from 1 lime and 1 lemon, and gradually add in 3 cups of sifted flour and 1/2 teaspoon of salt.
Mix the batter until well combined, and beat in 1/4 cup of heavy whipping cream and 1 cup of 7UP soda. Pour the batter into a greased and lightly floured bundt pan, and bake the cake at 325 F for 70 to 75 minutes. Let the cake cool completely, and drizzle it with a glaze made of 2 tablespoons of 7UP and 1 cup of powdered sugar.
