Start this recipe about two hours before you plan to serve the food to your guests. Add a 1-pound package of the cocktail wieners to the slow cooker. Pour a 12-ounce bottle of chili sauce and 12 ounces of grape jelly into a saucepan. Heat the sauce to melt the jelly, and stir occasionally. When the sauce is uniform, pour it over the wieners in the slow cooker, and turn the heat to high. At party time, reduce the cooker temperature to keep the food warm throughout the party.
For an updated version of this classic recipe, try a sauce made from raspberry jam, barbecue sauce and chipotle peppers. Mix 1/2 cup of seedless jam, 3/4 cup of barbecue sauce and 1 tablespoon of chipotle peppers in abodo sauce in a saucepan. Add the wieners, and bring the pot to a boil. Reduce the heat, and simmer for 30 minutes or pour the sauce over the cocktail wieners, and cook them as with the grape recipe.
